  1. A real gem. Waking up to the sound of the blue crane and guinea fowl. Snow capped mountains in the distance, canola fields bursting in yellow splendor and a day old lamb taking on life on wobbly legs. Will definitely be back.

  2. A wonderful retreat. The cottages are divine and superbly equipped. We only wish we could have stayed longer (but are already making plans for a return visit…)

  3. Thank you we enjoyed our stay so much, my husband specially loved the pool while he was preparing the fire for our braai! We loved the fact that we had all the space just for our own use. I think that you have everything in place needed for a comfortable tranquil escape away from the rush and stress of city life. I specially enjoyed your nice big non-stick frying pan for making breakfast, I missed absolutely nothing in the kitchen!

We would love to come again with our kids and grandchildren whom we know would love to swim and kick ball on the big ‘lawn’

I managed a guest house in Stellenbosch for 8 years and know what it takes to keep people happy. The cleanliness of your cottage was the very first thing I noticed when we walked in.

We hope to come again in the future!

  4. We have fallen in love with your spot and are returning as soon as possible! It is now officially my favourite place. We had such a fantastic weekend, just lovely!

  5. To Getaway Magazine

Thank you Getaway for a great magazine – we never leave home without our “getaway guide (magazine)”. We recently traveled – or rather dawdled to Cape Town from home (East London) via Route 62 and returned via the Overberg – we had a wonderful time – our pile of magazines – full of information of every kind and about every place was invaluable.

We stayed in ‘self catering’ accommodation along the way and we were never disappointed – there are some really nice places which offer good value for your money.

We must however make special mention of the Getaway Guide – February 2012 suggestion to stay at Journey’s Rest Farm 20km out of Napier – what a wonderful experience – the cottages are delightful, the braai area is perfect – the pool is sparkling – and thank you Nicola (owner) for the complimentary bottle of red wine, cheese and biscuits, rusks, the jug of milk in the fridge and all the other ‘home from home’ touches that made our stay so memorable.

  6. What a wonderful breakaway from the hussle and bussle that is life! Ryan and Nicola are perfect hosts and made us feel so totally relaxed. We have been to Journey’s Rest twice now and look forward to spending some more time there, perhaps we will take the kids along to experience the peace, serenity and comfort that is Journey’s Rest. Highly recommend!

  7. This is the sort of establishment you don’t want to write a review about because we had such a fantastic time in a marvelous place with wonderful hosts; you want to keep it all to yourself! Attention to detail was superb and lots of space for the kids to play. It was chilly in the evening so the indoor fires were very welcome, making it very snug. It even threatened with rain on our final night so Ryan brought us a Weber if we still wanted a braai under the stoep. Highly recommended holiday home.

  8. Fabulous place. Super restful & perfect to de-stress. The stars are so clear it felt like I was back in Hawaii. I loved photographing all the farm animals, and I enjoyed braiing and taking morning swims – waking up to wide open crispness. We took a “trip to town” and ate some darn good Pizza and drank the Local Napier Ale. Can’t wait to return!

  9. We had a lovely time and would go again. It is like waking up on a farm with the sheep on the other side of the fence and yet with all the modern comforts and lovely new bathrooms! They have a beautiful new swimming pool to relax in. It is a great place to get away from the ratrace and just chill.

  10. Beautiful location, wonderful hosts, the chalets are tastefully decorated and have everything you need. The pool is divine! A wonderful place to relax and unwind.

  11. Lovely cottages with all the comforts of home, very beautifully decorated with a personal touch. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful – perfect for a relaxing break from city life. The hosts are wonderfully friendly and accommodating. If you are looking for a spot to unwind and de-stress, then Journeys Rest is the place to go.

  12. “Journey’s Rest was a wonderful, peaceful getaway. Rolling landscapes and farm animals make for great views. The beds are so comfortable and the hosts have thought of every little last detail. The coffee, tea, rusks, bottle of local wine and cheese are just the cherry on top of what is already a great getaway.

  13. Wish the weekend we spent at Journey’s Rest was longer! One really feels welcome in the cosy, intimate accommodation with generous ‘goodies’ in the fridge, including a delicious bottle of red wine and some fine cheeses. Real value for money. Loved the personal touches in the decor, the quaint mural on the wall, the comfy bed, the chilled farm setting, the wonderful heritage visible in the simple architecture and in the nearby cemetery nestled among august fir trees. Above all, the warmth and friendliness of the hosts made us feel so ‘at home’. Can’t wait to return….

  14. Fabulous weekend! Great place, comfy well-appointed cottages, lovely setting, spectacular stargazing and friendly hosts who’ve thought of every detail. Can’t wait to return.

  15. This amazing hideaway should be in everyone’s little black book of weekend getaways. Set in a relaxing, peaceful countryside setting, but close enough from Cape Town to quickly escape to on any Friday afternoon. The owners, Nicola and Ryan made us feel so welcome, it was if we were visiting friends. We did very little except read our books, went for afternoon strolls to see the horses and pet the new lambs, and settle into a true South African evening “potjie” (a wonderful stew) with copious amounts of good red wine. Highly recommend!
